German Olympic Week, Kiel
For the third season in a row, I travelled to Kiel in Germany for the Kiel Week Olympic Classes Regatta. The venue typically has a range of different sea states and very shifty conditions which makes a very challenging venue to race in.
A black flag disqualification (BFD) on day one meant that I had to sail really conservatively for the rest of the week as one more bad result would be very costly to my overall position at the end of the week.
Over the course of the week I was able to remain composed and slowly move up the leaderboard so that I was in 6th position before the medal race. In the medal race, I managed to secure a 3rd place finish which was enough to move me up to 4th overall.
As frustrating as it was to miss out on a place on the podium, I was still happy with my performance over the week. Despite starting the week off on the back foot I was able to work my way up to a really respectable position and even challenge for a medal.
Now it's time to have some time off training before putting together a training plan for the 2020 sailing season
