Palamos Christmas Regatta

On the first day of racing, it was forecast to be light winds for the entire day and onshore. However, halfway through the first race, the breeze picked up significantly so that we were eventually racing in 25 knots. On the first day my results were 2, 5, 2 which put me in the lead but only just as it was all really close on points amongst the top 4 sailors. On the second day of competition, we were held on shore for most of the day as we waited for the wind to fill in. At 14:00 we were told to launch and head out to the race area, however, the wind never filled in enough to allow us to race.

Day three of competition had very similar conditions to that of the first day with 25 knots and big swell. I managed to sail consistently throughout the day but always seemed to make a mistake that would cost me the win in each race. I finished the day with a 2, 2, 3 which meant that I had extended my lead by 5 points. On the final day of racing, there was no wind in the morning so we were held onshore until 14:00 when it was finally decided to call off racing for the day.

It was a really good feeling to come away with a comfortable win in the Laser Standard class. I was also really surprised to find that I was also the "Absolute Youth Winner" which meant that I was the highest placed youth sailor across all 5 classes. I was really happy that I was able to end my youth sailing career on a high. Now it's time for me to get back to winter training and try to develop my sailing further.
