Youth National Championships
On the 30th of March, I travelled up to Largs, Scotland, for the Youth National Championships. The first two days were cancelled due to gale force winds and sub - zero temperatures.
On day 3, the wind finally dropped off enough for us to finally begin racing. On day 3 I managed to sail a consistent series despite huge gusts and shifts caused by the cliffs, posting two 2nd place finishes. This put me in second overall.
On day 4, the wind was a lot calmer but the shifty and gusty conditions continued to make racing interesting. Over 4 races I scored two 1st place finishes, a 2nd place and a 5th place which put me in 1st place going into the last day.
On day 5, my aim was to sail clean and not make any mistakes. I finished the day with another 1st and a 3rd. This meant that I had done enough to secure first place and become the Youth National Champion in the Men's Under 21 Laser Standard class.
I am so excited to have won such a prestigious event and I am so grateful to all the people who have sponsored me over the years. I know that without their support and belief in me that I would never have got this far. This win was in many ways a team effort. I would like to thank Delomac Roofing and 2sms.com who gave me the money to attend the event and will be supporting me at the Youth World and European Championships later this season.
I would also like to thank the people who supported me from an early age such as the BEA who provided financial assistance and the Bedford Park Rotary Club who paid for my road trailer and equipment. Also, to the St George's Day Charitable Trust who raised money for sails and equipment.
